Type species: Sophianus alces Distant, 1904 View in CoL , by original designation.
Diagnosis. First antennal segment short, shorter than width of an eye in dorsal view, basally incrassate, devoid of strong spines apically. Second antennal segment laminate, wide, gradually widened from base to apex ( Distant 1904: 485). Eyes wide, in dorsal view almost contiguous anteriorly, barely separated by the small ocelli sub-medially.
Distribution. China (Guangxi), India, Sri Lanka, and Taiwan.
One species occurs in India.
