Prionosthenus syriacus (Brisout de Barneville, 1854) View in CoL

( Figs. 286–287 View FIGURES 282 – 295 )

Material examined. LEBANON: Liban, Dinata , 3♂, 2♀ (Gadeau) ( MNCN) ; SYRIA: 25 km W. Damaskus [Damascus], 15– 16.5.1961, 1♀ (leg. Kasy & Vartian) ( NMW) .

Remarks. This species is very similar to Ocnerosthenus simulans (Bolívar, 1911) , including the male phallic complex. It is very difficult to decide their generic separation especially in females. While the male phallic complexes of both genera Prionosthenus Bolívar and Ocnerosthenus Massa have no a distinct difference, the external characters of the type species Prionosthenus galericulatus ( Stål, 1876) and Ocnerosthenus kneuckeri (Krauss, 1909) are distinct. Massa (1995) and Massa & Fontana (2004) gave the differences of both genera. I think the scope of the two genera is not so clear (see also the Remarks section of Ocnerosthenus brunnerianus ( Saussure, 1887) .
