Lectotype (Semple in Jarvis & Turland in Taxon 47: 367. 1998): [icon] "Virga aurea montana Scrophulariae folio" in Plukenet, Phytographia: t. 235, f. 3. 1692; Almag. Bot.: 390. 1696. - Voucher: Herb. Sloane 98: 154; 102: 122 (BM-SL).

Current name: Solidago flexicaulis L. View in CoL ( Asteraceae ).

Note: Gray (in Proc. Amer. Acad. Arts 17: 178. 1882) discussed the identity of various of the original elements, noting that 998.14 (LINN) is identifiable as S. caesia L. , but did not designate a type. Other authors such as Mackenzie (in Rhodora 30: 223. 1928) and Taylor & Taylor (in Sida 10: 181. 1983) also discussed this material, but the earliest formal type choice appears to be that of Semple.
