TYPE LOCALITY: North Sea, Faeroe Isis. ( Denmark) (uncertain) .
DISTRIBUTION: Cold temperate to subarctic waters of the North Atlantic, south to Massachusetts ( U.S.A.) and British Isles.
COMMENT: Type locality given by OLR as Great Britain, Orkney Isis., fide Tomilin, 1957, [Mamm. U.S. S. R., Adjac. Count.], 9: 952. Gromov and Baranova, 1981:221 stated that the holotype, a skull in the Rijksmuseum, Leiden, is "apparently, from the region of the Faeroe Isis." (R. S. Hoffmann).
PROTECTED STATUS: CITES - Appendix II as Order Cetacea .
