TYPE LOCALITY: Unknown .

DISTRIBUTION: Tropical to warm temperate waters of the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico.

COMMENT: Relationships with frontalis and attenuata are poorly known; see comments under attenuata . S. pernettyi used by Hershkovitz, 1966, was later suppressed by the International Commission of Zoological Nomenclature (Opinion 1067), following Van Bree, 1971, Beaufortia, 19(244):21- 25, but was employed by Hall, 1981:883. Corbet and Hill, 1980:109, included Plagiodon in attenuata (as dubia ).
