Note: Ixodes filippovae is not recognized by Filippova (1977), who treated this name as a synonym of Ixodes crenulatus , and Kolonin (2009) appears to have shared this opinion, but Ixodes filippovae is treated as provisionally valid in Guglielmone et al. (2010b, 2014, 2015), while Camicas et al. (1998) consider this species valid under the name Pholeoixodes filippovae . Indeed, Ixodes filippovae is a questionable species, proposed by Černý (1961) without any further elaboration apart from stating that the larva and nymph correspond to descriptions of Ixodes crenulatus from marmots in Filippova (1958). Koch (1844b) described Ixodes crenulatus from males, females and larvae collected from carnivores, not marmots, and Filippova and Panova (2000) found ten morphotypes of this species in the former USSR (five from Sciuridae , four from Carnivora , and one from undetermined hosts); additionally, there are slight differences in the descriptions of the larva and nymph of Ixodes crenulatus in Filippova (1958, 1961 , 1977). Therefore, we provisionally treat Ixodes crenulatus from marmots in Filippova (1958) as representing Ixodes filippovae , but further studies are needed to confirm this assumption. See also Ixodes canisuga for the proposed synonymy of Ixodes filippovae with that species.
