Redescriptions
M: Robinson (1926), Keirans (1972), Voltzit (2007); see note below
Note: the type locality for the only known specimen of Amblyomma fulvum is uncertain because Neumann (1899) states that the host was collected in “ Brésil?”, but Keirans (1972) states that its host, Eunectes murinus , does not occur in Brazil, which is incorrect. Keirans (1972) considers the ventral posterointernal tubercles of each festoon except the central to be a distinctive morphological feature of the male of Amblyomma fulvum , but this character is not shown in the corresponding figure. The text and figure of Keirans (1972) are repeated in Voltzit (2007); however, neither Neumann (1899) nor Robinson (1926) described such tubercles, resulting in major uncertainty concerning the correct diagnosis of Amblyomma fulvum , and a redescription of this species is needed. The record of a male of Amblyomma fulvum collected from the ground in Brazil by Figueiredo et al. (1999) is treated here as a misidentification.
