A Neotropical species, all of whose known parasitic stages are usually found on Rodentia : Cricetidae , but they have also been collected from Rodentia : Octodontidae , while nymphs alone have been collected from Rodentia : Abrocomidae and Muridae . There are no records of Ixodes sigelos causing human parasitism.

Note: Sánchez et al. (2010) state that more than one species may be included under the name Ixodes sigelos . Camicas et al. (1998) treat Ixodes sigelos as a probable synonym of Ixodes abrocomae , but both species are valid, as discussed in Guglielmone et al. (2010a). Nevertheless, the hypothesis of Camicas et al. (1998) has again been proposed by Muñoz-Leal et al. (2019).
