A Nearctic species, all of whose parasitic stages, including the undescribed larva, are usually found on Lagomorpha : Leporidae , while nymphs alone have been collected on Artiodactyla : Bovidae , Rodentia : Heteromyidae , and Passeriformes : Icteridae and Passerellidae . There are no records of Ixodes tovari causing human parasitism.

Note: the larva of Ixodes tovari is listed as described in Guglielmone et al. (2014), but there is no formal description of this stage. Camicas et al. (1998) list Ixodes tovari as a Nearctic and Neotropical species, but this tick is known from four Mexican localities that lie in the Nearctic Region.
