Note: see Amblyomma boulengeri for its alleged synonymy with Amblyomma pilosum . Keirans et al. (1973) explain that Santos Dias (1958a) and Robinson (1926) confused the type of Amblyomma pilosum with a female specimen later described as Amblyomma macfarlandi . Keirans and Hillyard (2001) also state that the description of the female of Amblyomma pilosum in Robinson (1926) corresponds, in fact, to Amblyomma macfarlandi . The redescriptions of the male and female of Amblyomma pilosum in Voltzit (2007) contain illustrations of the coxal spurs and hypostomal dentition that differ from the corresponding illustrations in Keirans et al. (1973).
