An Afrotropical species whose adults are usually found on Proboscidea : Elephantidae , but all parasitic stages have been recovered from elephantids and from Artiodactyla : Bovidae and Hippopotamidae , Carnivora : Felidae , and Passeriformes : Pittidae ; adult ticks and undetermined immature stages have been collected from Artiodactyla : Suidae , and Testudines : Testudinidae (provisional); adults alone have been taken from Carnivora : Canidae and Herpestidae , Perissodactyla : Equidae and Rhinocerotidae , and Squamata (unknown family), while nymphs alone have been found on Squamata : Chamaeleonidae , Accipitriformes : Accipi-tridae, and Musophagiformes : Musophagidae . Amblyomma tholloni is a sporadic parasite of humans.
