A Nearctic and Neotropical species whose adults and nymphs have been found on Artiodactyla : Bovidae and Tayassuidae , and Perissodactyla : Equidae ; adults alone have been col-lected from Didelphimorphia : Didelphidae ; nymphs alone have been recovered from Carnivora : Canidae , Rodentia : Sciuridae , Galliformes : Phasianidae , and Passeriformes : Mimidae and Turdidae . Amblyomma tenellum is a sporadic parasite of humans.

Note: Amblyomma tenellum had been considered a synonym of Amblyomma cajennense , but a recent examination of type specimens revealed that Amblyomma tenellum is in fact a valid species and Amblyomma imitator is its synonym, as discussed in Nava et al. (2014c).
