Chiefly an Afrotropical species with a few records from the Palearctic Region, whose adults are usually found on Artiodactyla : Bovidae , but all parasitic stages have been recovered from Bovidae ; adults and nymphs have been collected from Mammalia (several orders), and Aves (several orders); larvae alone have been recovered from Columbiformes : Columbidae . Amblyomma lepidum is a rare parasite of humans.

Note: researchers have not explicitly reported problems in morphologically identifying Amblyomma lepidum , but Keirans (1985c) found five species of Amblyomma that had been confused with this taxon.
