An Afrotropical species whose adults are usually found on Afrosori-cida: Tenricidae. All parasitic stages have been collected from Tenricidae; adults have occasionally been recovered from Rodentia : Muridae ; while nymphs have been taken from Carnivora : Eupleridae , and Erinaceomorpha : Erinaceidae . Haemaphysalis elongata is a very rare parasite of humans.

Note: Hoogstraal (1953a) explains that the female of Haemaphysalis elongata depicted in Nuttall and Warburton (1915) is, in fact, Haemaphysalis tiptoni , while the male described under that name in the same publication does not represent Haemaphysalis elongata .
