Note: Apanaskevich and Horak (2008a) treat Hyalomma nitidum as a valid species but leave open the possibility that it is conspecific with Hyalomma truncatum . Sands et al. (2017b) presented molecular evidence indicating that Hyalomma nitidum is most probably a synonym of the “northern lineage” of Hyalomma truncatum . See also Hyalomma albiparmatum for a discussion of the difficulties involved in morphologically separating Hyalomma albiparmatum , Hyalomma nitidum and Hyalomma truncatum .
