An Australasian and Oriental species, all of whose parasitic stages have been found on Mammalia (several orders). Rhipicephalus pilans is a very rare parasite of humans.

Note: Camicas et al. (1998, under the name Rhipicephalus haemaphysaloides pilans ) state that the larva is undescribed, but it was described before 1998 in Kadarsan (1971).
