Psammocinia alba Samaai, Pillay & Janson, 2019 View in CoL
( Fig. 1G View FIGURE 1 )
Psammocinia alba Samaai, Pillay & Janson, 2019: 67 View in CoL View Cited Treatment , figs. 30A–C.
The species was described by Samaai et al. from Sodwana Bay, NE coast of South Africa, 27.4581°S 32.7141°E, depth 25 m (holotype SAMC-A24789). The name is a junior primary homonym of Psammocinia alba Calcinai et al. (2017: 139 View in CoL , fig. 9), described from Timur, Bunaken Island, Sulawesi, Indonesia, 1.6333°N 124.7667°E, depth 22 m (holotype MSNG 60140). Junior primary homonyms are permanently unavailable and their name has to be replaced (ICZN art. 59.1). The two descriptions are rather similar, but the differences in e.g. thickness of the primary and secondary fibres (80 and 20 µm in the senior alba View in CoL species, 150–210 and 51–98 µm in the junior alba View in CoL species) renders it unlikely that the two are conspecific. As a consequence I propose Psammocinia samaaii nom.nov. to replace the junior homonym.
