The variety was described from Perico Island, off the Pacific coast of Panama,Albatross Exped. Stat. 4626, 8.9167°N 79.525°W, shore collecting (dry syntype, but only a single specimen is registered as USNM 8364). As indicated above, the varieties resemble each other sufficiently to consider them the same taxon. The present variety is a junior synonym of Geodia ataxastra Von Lendenfeld, 1910 View in CoL .
