Toxochalina multiformis Pulitzer-Finali, 1986 View in CoL
( Fig. 4L View FIGURE 4 )
Toxochalina multiformis Pulitzer-Finali, 1986: 175 View in CoL , fig. 84.
Currently, Toxochalina Ridley (1884: 402) View in CoL is considered a subgenus of Callyspongia Duchassaing & Michelotti, 1864 View in CoL (see e.g. Desqueyroux-Faúndez & Valentine, 2002a: 844). The present combination, described by Pulitzer-Finali from La Parguera, Puerto Rico, approximate coordinates 17.9494°N 66.9069°W, depth 2 m (holotype MSNG 47710), is a junior secondary homonym of Ceraochalina multiformis Von Lendenfeld (1887: 783) , as this was reassigned to the genus Callyspongia View in CoL by Burton (1934a: 607) (followed by Hooper & Wiedenmayer 1994: 98). Von Lendenfeld described six varieties of C. multiformis , the first of which, var. maeandra , is here chosen as the nominotypical variety to be named Ceraochalina multiformis var. multiformis (cf. ICZN art. 47.1), described from Port Chalmers, New Zealand, approximate coordinates 45.825°S 170.6083°E (dried holotype BMNH 1886.8.27.426, fide Hooper & Wiedenmayer, 1994: 98). Despite the fact that C. multiformis Von Lendenfeld is currently considered a junior synonym of Callyspongia (Callyspongia) nuda ( Ridley, 1884: 395) View in CoL , cf. Van Soest et al. 2020: 38, the junior name must be replaced as both senior and junior name belong to the same genus (ICZN art. 59.1). I propose Callyspongia (Toxochalina) gustavoi nom.nov., named after Gustavo Pulitzer-Finali.
