This species was described by Bowerbank from Westport Bay, Ireland, approximate coordinates 53.81°N 9.9°W, depth 9 m (holotype BMNH 1910.1.195). Stephens (1912) examined type slides labeled with this name and found they contained a mix of two species, Myxilla rosacea View in CoL and an unidentified species of Mycale View in CoL . Despite this, the name remains available (ICZN art. 17.1). Since most of the spicules belong to Myxilla rosacea View in CoL , I propose to reassign the compound specimen to Myxilla (Myxilla) rosacea View in CoL (Lieberķhn, 1869).
