DIAGNOSIS: The extant xantusiids includ- ed in this analysis are united by seven unambiguous synapomorphies. These are 41(2) fusion of the lacrimal and prefrontal, 47(1) jugal curved (rather than angulated), 88(1) an elongate supratemporal, 97(0) postorbital with a robust descending process contributing at least one-half the posterior orbital border, 132(1) crista prootica extending anteriorly onto the basipterygoid process, 183(1) dentary forming the dorsal border of the anterior inferior alveolar foramen, and 202(1) absence of an angular.
