Neochauliodes triangulatus sp. nov.

( Figures 1 View FIGURE 1 , 2 View FIGURE 2 )

Diagnosis. The new species is characterized by the following characters: forewing with dispersed dark rounded spots on proximal part of costal area; branches of RP not strongly curved posteriorly; male ectoproct with oblique ventral margin in lateral view; male gonocoxite 10 broad, apex straightly directed posteriad, laterally with subtriangular subapical processes.

Description. Male. Body length 26.1–26.3 mm; forewing length 27.9–28.8 mm, hindwing length 24.4–24.8 mm.

Head blackish brown, with occiput yellowish brown ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 ). Compound eyes black. Antennae blackish brown. Mandibles black with tip reddish brown, maxillary and labial palpi with distal two segments yellowish brown.

Pronotum blackish brown, with anteromedian and median region yellowish brown; meso- and metanotum blackish brown, paler at middle. Legs yellowish brown and darker distad, with short dense setae. Wings ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 ) hyaline with brown markings, veins brown. Forewing proximally with many brown spots; short and long brown stripes present beside pterostigmal region; some diffuse brownish markings present on distal 2/3 of wing, a few medial spots among them arranged into a transverse band that touches proximal pterostigmal stripe. Hindwing barely marked, with only two brown pterostigmal stripes and a short diffuse brownish stripe along stem of RP.

Abdomen blackish brown. Ectoproct subtrapezoidal in lateral view, with straight dorsal margin and oblique ventral margin; in dorsal view inflated, inner portion bearing rows of brushy setae ( Figs. 2A, B View FIGURE 2 ). Fused gonocoxites 10 strongly sclerotized; lateral arms relatively broad in ventral view, distally fused with median plate; median plate in ventral view rather broad with proximal margin feebly incised ( Fig 2C View FIGURE 2 ). Apex of gonocoxite 10 straight, directed posteriad in lateral view ( Figs. 2A View FIGURE 2 , 3E View FIGURE 3 ), laterally with a pair of broad subtriangular subapical processes in lateral view ( Figs. 2A View FIGURE 2 , 3E View FIGURE 3 ).

Female. Unknown.

Type material. Holotype ♂, CHINA: “ China, Yunnan, Yingjiang, Xima [昔马镇], V–VI.2019, Weizong Yang ” ( CAU) . Paratype: 1♂, same data as holotype ( CAU) .

Etymology. The specific epithet ‘ triangulatus ’ refers to the subtriangular subapical processes of male gonocoxite 10 in the new species.

Distribution. China (Yunnan).

Remarks. The new species is placed in the N. borwingi species-group based on the forewing with dispersed dark rounded spots on the proximal part of costal area as well as the RP vein not strongly curved posteriorly. Among the group members, the new species resembles N. bowringi in having similar wing markings and male gonocoxite 10 laterally strongly broadened. However, it can be distinguished from the latter species by the rather broad male gonocoxite 10 with the apex almost straight and directed posteriad, and with subapical process that is subtriangular in lateral view. In N. bowringi , the male gonocoxite 10 is much narrower in ventral view with its apex strongly curved dorsad and strongly broadened at the middle in lateral view. It is also worth noting that the subapical processes of the male gonocoxite 10 in the new species a also present in N. umbratus ( Fig. 3C View FIGURE 3 ). However, N. umbratus is not placed in the N. bowringi species-group based on the greatly differing wing markings.
