Distribution in India: Andhra Pradesh (Gautami, Godavari, Sarada and Varaha estuaries)

Notes. This is a widely distributed species occurring in freshwater habitats, estuarine and marine conditions ( Kumano 2002; Silva et al. 1996). A sub-species, B. tenella sub.sp. flagellifera, has its type locality in a river in Sydney, Australia ( Silva et al. 1996). Experimental studies in the laboratory of the Indian specimens ( Narasimha-Rao & Subba-Rangiah 2008) showed that this species can apparently tolerate 0 ppt salinity with minimum photosynthetic and respiratory responses.

Genus - Polysiphonia Greville nom. et typ. cons.
