Distribution. China (Henan, Jiangxi, Zhejiang, Hubei, Hunan, Anhui, Fujian, Guangdong, Guangxi, Guizhou, Sichuan, Gansu, Shaanxi). Korea.
Remarks. Taxonomic misidentifications of H. chinensis , H. membranacea , and H. maculata in previous works were revised by Liu et al. (2020). Male genitalia ( Fig. 12A–B View FIGURE 12 ) of specimens studied herein do not differ from those in Liu et al. (2020).
Ootheca ( Fig. 14A–D View FIGURE 14 ) barrel-like or rectangular, varied in shape: its ventral surface could either away from the substrate and exposed or overlap the substrate. Similar to that of H. longa but generally smaller. Each egg chamber with distinct edges, forming longitudinal ridges (lateral suture) on the external wall. Chamber openings pentagonal, with dentate edges laterally. The operculum on the emergence area are highly reduced. External wall dark coloured, very hard. Females attach egg cases typically to thin branches or rough surfaces, the proximal end of ootheca may partially or fully surround the substrate to which it is attached.
