Discussion: May be conspecific with americana , melampus , and zibellina ( Anderson, 1970; Hagmeier, 1961). Synonyms allocated according to Ellerman and Morrison-Scott (1951). Stone and Cook (2002) suggested a close relationship with zibellina , and placed in the subgenus Martes .
