1758 Lumbricus terrestris (part.) Linnaeus, Syst. Nat., 10: 647.

1991 Lumbricus terrestris: Mršić, Acad. Sci. Art. Slov. (Hist. Nat.) , 31: 481. 2003 Lumbricus terrestris: Csuzdi & Zicsi, Pedozool. Hung. , 1: 188.

Ecological category. Anecic.

Habitat. Cultivated soils, grasslands (pastures, meadows), less abundant in deciduous forests.

Zoogeographical distribution type. Peregrine.

Distribution in Croatia. The most common anecic species in the Continental region, found in the Alpine region as well but lacking from the Mediterranean region. Zicsi (1968): Maksimir; Šapkarev (1972, 1979): Zagreb, Novska, Zaprešić; Jelić (1985): Sakadaško jezero, Podunavlje; Hackenberger: Stara Drava (Osijek), Slavonski Brod, Donji Miholjac, Osijek, Turkovići, Potok Musulinski, Bjelsko.

Remark. Based on DNA sequences, James et al. (2010) separated L. terrestris and L. herculeus Savigny, 1826 , in synonymy since Michaelsen (1900). L. terrestris sensu lato includes both nominal species.
