Hydropsyche angustipennis View in CoL View at ENA species group

Species in this group are widely distributed in the Palaearctic and Nearctic regions and are characterized by the presence of a phallothecal apex with well sclerotized structural elements of the endothecal processes, and highly complex phallotremal sclerites. The sclerotized endothecal process is immovable, i.e. fused to the phallothecal apex in contrast to the movable sclerotized endothecal processes of the H. buergersi , H. asiatica and H. ungulata species groups having also reduced terminalia without developed endotheca. The fused and immovable endothecal process is the primary character of the Hydropsyche angustipennis species group. The group has previously been revised ( Malicky 1977, 1999, 2001). We recognize 3 new species clusters based on the presence of three structural units in the phallic apparatus.Fused endothecal processes only ( H. guttata ), fused endothecal processes and angular subapical projections ( H. pellucidula ), fused endothecal processes, angular subapical projections and digitiform apicoventral setose processes on the Xth segment ( H. instabilis ).
