Hydropsyche lomdom Oláh & Johanson , new species

Fig. 136–140

This species is similar to H. sangbung , new species from which it is separated by the presence of a shorter segment IX; the apical lobe being sharply triangular; the apical end of the median keel being located well posteriorly of the apical lobe; the different shape of segment X; the Lateral setose areas on segment X being located ventrally, not medially; the paired apicodorsal setose lobes being finger-like; and the median surface of the harpagones that are excavated spoon-shaped.

Male. Body and wings brown with light pubescence. Forewing membrane light brown, slightly spotted. Maxillary palp formula I-II-(III, IV)-V, segment V as long as segments I–IV together. Dorsum of head dark brown, with 9 dark brown setal warts. Swollen setal wart present on proepisternum. Pretarsal claw asymmetrical, laterally flanked by setal bundle. Spur formula 244. Protibia with posteroapical spur as long as anteroapical spur.

Wings. Venation typical for the genus. Forewing crossveins m-cu and cu separate; Sc and R, and Cu2 and A separate before costa. Hind wing Sc and R meeting before costa about at crossvein r. Stem of M and Cu1 located closely. Median cell closed. Fork 1 present. Forewing length 8.0 mm, hind wing length 5.2 mm.

Male genitalia. Abdominal segment IX fused annularly, very short. Median keel long, narrow ( Fig. 137); dorsal surface granulose, lateral surfaces laterally flat; apex clearly triangular, tapering in dorsal view; anterior margin arciform; dorsum strongly shifted posterad ( Fig. 136). Each antecosta well developed, present in single line narrowing dorsally before margin, with external groove of antecostal suture ( Fig. 136). Apical lobe on posterolateral margins sharply triangular ( Fig. 136). Each posterior spine row complete, continuous, demarcating dorsal half of segment IX, absent on dorsum. Depression between segments IX and X short, shallow, obtusely angled. Body of segment X long, nearly quadrangular in lateral view ( Fig. 136), rounded quadrangular in dorsal view ( Fig. 137); elongate patch of lateral setose areas (preanal appendages) located ventrally ( Fig. 136); additional setae diffusing into loosely packed group apically of compact patch. Apicoventral setose lobes modified into pair of digitiform processes with setae restricted to apex; moderately long, slightly clavate in lateral view ( Fig. 136). Dorsal interlobular gap long, wide, anteriorly encircled by apicoventral processes and apicodorsal setose lobes. Apicodorsal setose lobes elongate, forming pair of small, digitiform setose processes. Smooth cavity on segment X absent. Short, darkly pigmented, transverse suture runs ventrally on each side from bottom of intersegmental depression ( Fig. 136); longitudinal sutures running above lateral setose areas ( Fig. 136). Coxopodites long, slender, sinuous at basal half, slightly dilating distally from mid-length ( Fig. 136). Harpagones almost parallel-sided, strongly curving mesad ( Fig. 138); each mesal surface excavated spoon-like. Phallic apparatus simply bent ( Fig. 139); broadening along ventrad curving basal section. Phallotheca with concave dorsum. Phallotremal sclerites absent, phallotrema continuing into campaniform, sclerotized widening ( Fig. 139). Apex of phallotheca with sclerous widening ventral lobe, bilobed, with wide, central, triangular excision visible in ventral and dorsal view ( Fig. 140). Pair of small, slender dorsolateral membranous lobes present; very small apices directed anteriorly, forming weakly sclerotized, short, spine. Endothecal membrane in dorsal subapical trough armed with pair of sclerous, endothecal, finger-like, processes.

Holotype male: VIETNAM: Bac Thai Province , Quang Chu, 24–25.v.1987 ( OPC, alcohol).

Paratypes: same data as holotype — 4 males .

Distribution. Vietnam.

Etymology. lomdom , spotted in Vietnamese, referring to the light spotted forewing membrane.
