Remarks: As is seen from the frequent generic transfers, the status of this species was highly instable. Even in the cladistic analysis of Schefter (2005) it was suggested and isolated into a distinct genus. However, based upon defined primary generic characters, the species represents a true Calosopsyche , having identical primary generic characters with the other members of the genus. We have found some mistakes in the character matrix used in the cladistic analysis by Schefter (2005). These mistakes were mainly caused by sexual dimorphism. The pretarsal claw is asymmetrical, not symmetrical. Like in other genera, or other species, even inside the genus Calosopsyche , asymmetry of the pretarsal claws is frequently sex linked. Even the degree of asymmetry varies greatly. Asymmetry involving laterally flanked setal bundle may occur only in the fore-leg, fore- and mid-leg, or in all legs in the male. This may, or may not be combined with identical variation in the female. The hind wing crossvein m-cu, representing one of the most important primary generic characters, is well visible in both Calosopsyche continentalis Flint & Bueno-Soria , and Calosopsyche domingensis (Banks) , like in all other species in the genus. Among the tertiary generic characters, the endophallus is long, not short as listed in the character matrix. Even the 3 setose processes are present, but shortened, forming almost a single, united, lobe. A careful examination shows that 3 separate setose surfaces are distinguishable, among them, the preanal appendages. After correcting the character matrix of Schefter (2005) for these characters, one of us ( KAJ) re-ran the analysis in PAUP *. The many more shortest trees obtained were 2 steps shorter and the strict consensus tree did not improve resolution. Furthermore, the two Calaosopsyche species were still distantly related.
