Nelocira desmarestii Perty, 1833 [ Cirolanidae ]

Remarks: This is an available name but the taxon has apparently never been cited after its original description; a search of Google Scholar and Biodiversity Heritage Library resulted in no records found and Niel Bruce was unaware of it. Based on the description and type locality (Sebastianópolis do Sul, Brazil) there is a strong likelihood that it is the same taxon, and therefore the senior synonym, as Excirolana braziliensis Richardson, 1912 (Bruce, pers. comm.) but this will likely be impossible to confirm as unless Perty’s type material of this species is examined (if extant). At present, N. desmaresti should be considered a species inquirendum.
