Thripomorpha liliae View in CoL n. sp.

Figs. 5A–D View FIGURE 5

Type material. Holotype male, adult, slide mounted, labeled: “ HOLOTYPE Thripomorpha liliae n. sp. México, Guerrero, Municipio Ayutla de los Libres, Localidad La Unión , Rancho , El Camalote , 6–18-Jul.- 2009, trampa Malaise, Cols. Dzul, F. & W. Bibiano Marín. Elevación: 70 msnm”. (in CAIM).

Paratypes: 1 female with same data of holotype. On slide mounting. (in CAIM) .

Diagnosis. Tergite 7 of male with a pair of setose posteromedial lobes; male terminalia with the gonostyle claw-shaped, elongate and almost as long as the terminalia itself.

Description. Male. Color. General body color brown. Length, ca. 1.5 mm. Head. Similar to Figure 1A View FIGURE 1 , brown, 0.33 mm long in lateral view, eyes pubescent. Labella setose, with apical setae curved. Antennae similar to Figure 1B View FIGURE 1 , brown, 0.32 mm long, 10 brown flagellomeres, covered by sparse minute hair-like microtrichia, more evident at base of flagellomeres; flagellomeres 1–9 with a single medial whorl of sensilla chaetica and with distinct type distal antennal sensilla at apical margin (similar to sensilla coeloconica found in other groups of Diptera ); flagellum length, 0.26 mm, last flagellomere club-shape, 0.07 mm long, sparsely setose, abundant scattered sensilla above basal whorl of setae. Palpus similar to Figure 1D View FIGURE 1 , brown, 0.05 mm long, with sparse setae and palpal sensilla. Thorax. Brown, scutum with sparse covered with short setae; scutellum with scattered setae, and two evident long setae in laterobasal margin; anterior spiracular sclerite wider that large, with 22–23 setae; supra-alar setae, 6–7; antepronotum, proepimeron and proepisternum with scattered setae; anepisternum with 6 anterior setae and one basal setae; katepisternum and meron bare. Wing. Lost in preparation of the specimen. Halter similar to Figure 1F View FIGURE 1 , brown, finely microtrichose over entire surface, without apparent setae. Legs similar to Figures 2A–C View FIGURE 2 , brown. Coxae brown; femora brown, with subbasal pale area, rest with basal and distal broad brown bands. Tibiae with mesal pale area, remainder brown. Tarsi brown. Femora and tibiae with scattered setae, all tibiae with posteroapical spine-like setae and tibial comb in a regular row. Tarsomeres I armed with short, stout ventral spines in palisade row ( Fig. 5C View FIGURE 5 ), tarmoseres II of mid and hind legs with less numerous, similar setae; apical spine-like setae present on fore tarsomeres I, mid tarsomeres I–V, hind tarsomeres I–III. Claws strongly curved; empodia present.

Abdomen dark brown. Tergite 1 with microreticulation. Sternite 6 with a medial group of spinose setae at posterior margin; tergite 7 with a pair of setose posteromedial lobes and with adjacent sclerotized V-shaped band ( Fig. 5A View FIGURE 5 ), short posterolateral lobes; sternite 7 ( Fig. 5A View FIGURE 5 ) with posterior margin slightly concave, with abundant setae. Terminalia ( Fig. 5D View FIGURE 5 ) length, 0.27 mm in lateral view, width, 0.07 mm; strongly sclerotized claw shaped basal projection; gonostyle claw-shaped, elongate, as long as terminalia itself, ventrally curved on distal apex, and a group of setae in a basal row; epandrium setose, U-shaped, forming a mesal concavity distally; aedeagus small, conspicuous in lateral view, bottle-shaped.

Female. Differing from male as follows. Antenna brown, 0.30 mm long. Thorax. Anepisternum with 7 anterior setae. Wing. Length, 1.10 mm; width, 0.46 mm. R 1 and R 4+5 with irregularly arranged rows of short dorsal setae; Sc incomplete, with 3–4 pores; base of M 1 largely absent; macrotrichia present on veins M 1, M 2 and CuA 2, and some on wing margin apically and posteriorly, including anal region. Abdomen with tergite 7 as in Fig. 5B View FIGURE 5 , with a small posteromedial projection; sternite 7 ( Fig. 5B View FIGURE 5 ) square-shaped. Spermatheca sclerotized, semi-oval with small setae disposed laterally, 0.10 mm in length.

Distribution. Mexico (Guerrero).

Bionomics. The specimens were collected in a forest, located in the tropic region of Mexico.

Etymology. This species is named in honor of the Liliana Velázquez, deceased because of a disease.

Discussion. Thripomorpha liliae n. sp. is similar to the group of species in the genus with microreticulations on abdominal tergite 1 and the base of M 1 largely absent in the wing. The male terminalia may be separated from the remaining species by the distinctive length of the gonostyle. Tergite 7 is similar to other species, but can be distinguished by the setose lobes posteromedially.
