Type Locality: "du nord de la Chine "; China, Sichuan, Moupin (Baoxing).
Vernacular Names: Chinese Goral.

Subspecies Naemorhedus griseus subsp. griseus Milne-Edwards 1871
Subspecies Naemorhedus griseus subsp. evansi Lydekker 1902
Distribution: W Burma, E China ( SW Inner Mongolia to Yunnan), NE India (Provinces E of Bangladesh), and NW Thailand. Also SE Burma and N Vietnam ( Tonkin) (Groves and Grubb, in prep.). Occurrence in Laos as yet unconfirmed ( Duckworth et al., 1999).
Conservation: IUCN – Vulnerable as N. caudatus evansi and N. c. griseus .
Discussion: Fully described by Milne-Edwards, Rech. Hist. Nat. Mamm., Faune Tibet-Oriental, p. 361, pl.70, 71, 71a [1874]. Reviewed by J. I. Mead (1989, Mammalian Species, 335, as Nemorhaedus goral ).
