Names.

English: iwarancusa grass, millet, oilgrass.

Range.

Africa; Asia.

Uses.

Oil: Considered a valuable liniment to treat rheumatism. Root: Thought to be of great value in curing a number of fevers, including malaria.

Notes.

In India the leaf is used for cough, rheumatism, and cholera; also as a tonic for dyspepsia and to purify blood ( Jain and DeFilipps 1991).

The oil from the roots contains DL-piperitone and D-∆ 4-carene ( Perry 1980).
