Type Locality: India or Pakistan, "Kashmir (no precise locality)".
Vernacular Names: Kashmir Musk Deer.
Distribution: Himalayas of India and Pakistan in Kashmir, and N Afghanistan.
Conservation: CITES – Appendix I; U.S. ESA – Endangered.
Discussion: Originally described as a subspecies of chrysogaster ; very similar to leucogaster ; Groves et al. (1995) suggested that cupreus might be a separate species.
