Soyedina kondratieffi Baumann & Grubbs 1996:220 View in CoL . Holotype ♂ (USNM), upper Ball Creek , Coweeta Hydrologic Laboratory, Macon Co., North Carolina, USA

Distribution. USA: MD, NC ( DeWalt et al. 2019), TN ( Verdone et al. 2017, p. 36).

Material examined. USA, Maryland, Garrett Co., spring into Savage River, Savage River State Forest , 39.53662, -79.13965, 18 May 1996, 4 males, 2 females, S.A. Grubbs ( WKUC) GoogleMaps ; spring into Dry Run, Savage River State Forest , 39.52400, -79.14937, 24 March 1996, S.A. Grubbs, 2 males ( WKUC) GoogleMaps ; same but 39.52948, -79.15489, 24 March 1996, S.A. Grubbs, 2 males, 1 female ( WKUC) GoogleMaps . North Carolina, Macon Co., upper Ball Creek, Coweeta Hydrologic Laboratory , 22 February–23 March 1984, A.D. Huryn, 4 male, 11 females ( ADHC, paratypes) ; same but 22 February–23 March 1984, A.D. Huryn, 1 male, 1 female ( BYU) ; same but 20 March–7 April 1984, A.D. Huryn, 6 males ( BYU, WKUC) . Tennessee, Sevier Co., Gatlinburg , 3 April 1941, J.F. Hanson, 1 male ( USNM) ; Brushy Mountain, ATBI Plot , 35.67477, -83.43081, 11–30 April 2002, D. Fowler, 1 male ( BYU) GoogleMaps ; tributary to West Prong Little Pigeon River, U.S. 441, Great Smoky Mountains National Park , 35.6417, -83.4821, 23 February 2014, S.A. Grubbs, 2 males, 2 females ( WKUC) GoogleMaps ; Hickory King Branch, West Prong Little Pigeon River, U.S. 441, Great Smoky Mountains National Park , 35.6534, -83.5154, 23 February 2014, S.A. Grubbs, 1 male ( WKUC) GoogleMaps ; tributary, Walker Camp Prong, Newfound Gap Road , 6 April 2014, C.H. Nelson, 2 males, 1 female ( BYU) .

New state records. Virginia, Buchanan Co., tributary, Hunts Creek, Hwy 80, Buchanan-Dickenson county line, 28 February 1991, R.W. Baumann & S.M. Clark, 2 males ( BYU) ; Giles Co., spring-fed stream flowing into Little Stoney Creek , Rte. 623, 26 February 1977, B.C. Kondratieff, 1 male ( CHNC) ; Warren Co., Lands Run, Shenandoah National Park , 7 March 1976, O.S. Flint, Jr., 7 males, 11 females ( USNM) .

Remarks. Adults were described in Baumann & Grubbs (1996); the larva remains undescribed. The near-symmetric dorsal ( Figs. 57–59, 62 View FIGURES 57–64 ) and ventral ( Figs. 57–59 View FIGURES 57–64 ) sclerites, plus the paired, concave inner epiproct members ( Figs. 57, 59–60 View FIGURES 57–64 ) of the epiproct, are unique among the eastern Nearctic species of this genus. In addition, in lateral view the dorsal sclerites ( Fig. 61 View FIGURES 57–64 ) are markedly more robust compared to the other eastern Nearctic species (e.g. Figs. 21 View FIGURES 17–24 , 29 View FIGURES 25–30 ). Similar to S. amicalola , the placement of S. kondratieffi into a species group is problematic.

Verdone et al. (2017) reported four additional localities of this species from Great Smoky Mountains National Park ( GRSM). This included three localities from Tennessee, representing new (but expected) state records. Two additional GRSM records are noted above and this species is also reported from Virginia for the first time. We anticipate S. kondratieffi is in West Virginia, too. Soyedina kondratieffi is currently known only from small disjunct geographic areas in western Maryland, east Tennessee, western North Carolina, and western Virginia ( Fig. 81 View FIGURE 81 ).
