Hedysarum kopetdaghi Boriss. (1947: 10) View in CoL . Type:— TURKMENISTAN. Kopet Dag : Geok-tepe area, northwest area ,

Almandjik town , 1800 m, 24 June 1934, A. G. Barissova 288 (LE-01009306; LE-01009307); Western silt rock oil highly guarded (overgrown) mountain hold, A. P. Goudkova 3778 (LE-00050386)

Hedysarum bojnordense Ranjbar & Joharchi (2008: 25) View in CoL . Type:— IRAN. Northern Khorasan, northwest Bojnord , between Gharehghanlou and Yekeh-Soud Pain, 17 Jun 2003, Johartchi 34784 (holotype: FUMH, isotype: Bu-AliSina Univ. herbarium).

Typical characters:— Plant few-many stemmed and rootstock thin or thick based on the stage of development. Stems (-2‒4.5) 25.5 cm, branches divaricate. Stipules pale brown, lower ones densely hairy, mostly connate, triangular, acuminate, upper ones glabrous, scarious, with two veins, cuspidate. Basal and lowermost cauline leave with 2‒3 and caulis leave with 4‒5(6-) pairs of elliptic-ovate leaflets, petiole decreasing from lower to upper leave from 6.5 to 1.2 cm. Peduncle 15‒31 cm, longer than leave and stems. Inflorescence short elliptic to long oblong in fruit stage. Bract 4‒6 mm long. Bracteoles 2, as long as calyx tube, 2 mm long. Calyx (-5‒6) 7‒10 mm long, calyx teeth 3‒8 mm. Corolla violet, 1.5 times as long as calyx; standard 10‒15.5 mm long, as long as or slightly longer than the keel, obcordate at the apex; wings 5–8.5 mm long; keel 10‒14 mm long. Immature pods pubescent, mature ones ± glabrous, without any setae (Appendix 1).

Notes:—The Plant and stem heights and stipules length are in overlap with H. glabrifoliolatum and H. paucifoliolatum ones.

Distribution:— Endemic to Gorgan and Khorasan province of Iran, Turcomania, and Afghanistan.

Representative specimens:— IRAN. Gorgan: 16 May 2008, Zarre & Salmaki 40210a-b-c-d ( TUH); Mohammad Reza Shah National Park , Almeh, 1500–1800 m , 08 June 1965, K. H Rechinger 53070 ( W); Shah Jahan Protected Area , Dasht-e Shah Jahan, in declivibus australibus saxosis N Hessari, 1400–1600 m, K. H Rechinger 53613 ( W) ;

Khorasan: North West of Neishabur, Bar waterfall, 2000 m, 29 June 2003, Zangooei 34890a, b ( FMUH); Hezar Masjed mount. inter Gash , 1800 m, 07 June 1948, K . H . Rechinger 5143-b (US-2316126 [Photo!], W-0005664, W- 0005665); Montes Hazar Masdjid , inter Gash et Tolgor , 1800 m, 7 June 1948, K . H . Rechinger 5143-c ( W); West of Mashhad, Binalood mountains , 1832 m, 7 June 2005, M . R . Johartchi & Zangooei 36533 ( FUMH); Bojnourd, Robat Garabil, 30 km, old road of Jajarm , 1600 m, 29 May 1998, Hojjat & Zangooei 31077 ( FUMH) .

Note:— Three specimens from Turkmenistan (LE-01009306[photo!]; LE-01009307[photo!]; LE- 00050386[photo!]) and one specimen from Afghanistan 33886 (W) were also observed. Hedysarum bojnordense and H. kopetdaghi have been found as synonyms, according to overlaps of the number of leaflets, stem length (the short stem is also have been seen in H. kopetdaghi 5143-b (W-0005665)), Petiol length (e.g. 2 cm petiol in caules leave and up to 5.5 cm long in basal leave LE-01009306), Calyx size (e.g. 6 mm long in 5143-b (W)) between two species. Moreover, emarginate leaflets at tip just seen in initial leave, shape and smaller dimension of leaflets are phenologic traits. However, in the plastid tree topology, H. bojnordense remained unresolved in H. kopetdaghi clade, in molecular analyses with nrDNA ITS placed in close relationship with that.
