Stipules 2.5‒7 mm long, yellow-light brown, semi-connate, bicuspidate, densely covered with white hairs. Leave 5‒13 cm long, with 1‒3 pairs of ovate-lanceolate in basal leave, 12‒30 × 9‒17 mm, with terminal leaflets much larger than others, and with 3‒7 pairs of elliptic-oblong leaflets, 10‒32 × 3‒8 mm, rounded to obtuse at the apex and sometimes mucronate, in upper leave. Peduncles 5–11 cm, as long as or shorter than subtending leave. Bract 4‒7 mm long. Bracteoles 2, shorter than the tube. Calyx 6‒11 mm long, teeth 6‒8 mm. Corolla bluish-violet or greenishyellow in narrow white background, 1.4x as long as calyx; standard 9‒13 mm, 4/5x as long as the keel, cleft to emarginate; wings 4‒6 mm; keel 12‒16 mm long. Pods (-1–2)3‒5-jointed, flattened, 6–8 mm long, ribbed, densely covered with appressed white hairs and reddish then purplish setae, slightly shorter or longer than pod’s width (Appendix 1).

Distribution:— Distributed in Turkmenistan and NE of Khorasan province.

Notes:— Having 1‒3 paired leaflets in basal leave, (-4)(5‒6) paired in cauline leave and 1‒4-jointed pods in H. johartchii No. 16753a versus No.16753b with 3‒4 paired leaflets and 1‒4-jointed pods; also type specimen no.13129a with 4‒6 pairs of elliptic to oblong leaflets versus No.13129b with 1‒2 paired, or No.42986a with 1‒3 paired leaflets and 1‒5-jointed pods versus No.42986b with (-2)(3‒4)(5‒) paired leaflets, are overlapping characters between H. johartchii , H. kalatense and H. balchanense . This overlaps strengthen the theory of relating 1‒3 pairs of wide lanceolate leaflets to basal leave in early stages of growth of the plant. Moreover, the corolla color combination in these species is near the same but with different intensity of tinged colors like blue in H. johartchii , yellow-violet in H. balchanense , and greenish violet in H. kalatens . On the other hand, in nrDNA ITS tree topology, H. johartchii , H. kalatense , and H. macranthum pertianed to H. wrightianum group (group (A), Nafisi et al. 2019a) all in the polytomic relationships with each other. Whereas in the combined tree topology, H. kalatense and H. macranthum were placed in polytomic places, not inside the group (A). These results urge the need for further investigations about the relationship of two species. Precise investigation in the nucleotide differences between H. johartchii and H. kalatense retrieved a nuance, including two singleton nucleotides, one from nrDNA ITS dataset, which is related to differences of H. kalatense specimens with each other and the second one associated with a minute difference of H. johartchii versus two H. kalatense specimens in combined plastid dataset. With regarding mat K region as a DNA barcoding region and the fact of not developing H. johartchii and H. kalatense plastid regions difference in matK region, therefore the diversities aren’t of a satisfactory value to distinguish between two Hedysarum species.
