Stenogephyra minuta Lyneborg View in CoL
( Figs. 6–7 View FIGURES 2 – 15 , 45)
minuta Lyneborg (1987:474 desc., Fig. 22 male ant.) (Stenogephyra) View in CoL .
Lyneborg (1987:474) adequately described Stenogephyra minuta View in CoL so the description is not reproduced here. The following diagnosis relates S. minuta View in CoL to the other species in the genus.
Diagnosis. Stenogephyra minuta is similar to S. dianeae spec. nov. and S. parkeri spec. nov. in possessing two pairs of notopleural macrosetae, in lacking dorsocentral macrosetae, in having the katepisternum completely covered with silver pubescence, and in having vein M2 reaching the hind margin of the wing, and having silver pubescence on gena (lateral view) reaching from lower eye margin to ventral margin of head ( Figs. 2, 6, 10 View FIGURES 2 – 15 ). It differs from S. dianeae spec. nov. in having silver pubescence along the eye margin not greatly expanded at level of antennal base and not reaching height of frontal ocellus ( Fig. 6 View FIGURES 2 – 15 ); the halters dark brown to black, and the male sternite 8 having setae continuous across the posterior margin (as in Fig. 32 View FIGURES 32 – 35 ); and the male gonocoxite in lateral view lacking a posteroventral projection (as in Fig. 24). It differs from S. parkeri spec. nov. in having the head glossy with expanded area of silver pubescence at height of antenna ( Figs. 6–7 View FIGURES 2 – 15 ) becoming a narrow band along margin of eyes before broadening slightly below level of eyes. This species is recorded from Western Cape Province, South Africa (Fig. 45).
Habitats and Phenology. Stenogephyra minuta has been handnetted or collected in a Malaise trap in a large canyon from September through November.
Specimens examined (n = 308). Type specimen.
