( Fig. 31 View FIGURES 29–39 )
Cyrtocapsus guianus Carvalho 1985: 269 View in CoL (original description; Guyana); Henry & Carvalho 1987: 293 (key); Schuh 1995: 542 (catalog), 2002–2013 (online catalog).
Diagnosis. Cyrtocapsus guianus ( Fig. 31 View FIGURES 29–39 ) is distinguished by the brownish-orange head, pronotum, and outer two thirds of the corium, including the embolium, contrasting with the fuscous scutellum, clavus, and inner margin of the corium, and the pale yellow to yellowish-white antenna and legs.
It is most similar to C. paraguaiensis ( Figs. 48 View FIGURES 40–48 ) in having a largely brownish-orange head and pronotum, but the latter differs in the larger size (3.76 mm to membrane/ 2.72 mm to base of cuneus), the broad fuscous area across the collar and calli, and the fuscous basal two thirds of the corium.
Description. Holotype female ( Fig. 31 View FIGURES 29–39 ): Length to apex of membrane 3.20 mm, length to base of cuneus 2.24 mm, widest width across hemelytra 1.17 mm. Head: Width 0.82 mm, interocular width 0.45 mm. Labium: Length 0.82 mm. Antenna: Segment I length 0.45 mm; II, 0.58 mm; III and IV missing. Pronotum: Median length 0.80 mm, basal width 1.04 mm.
Coloration: Head brownish orange, except for a small median fuscous spot at base of the vertex; eyes dark brown, tinged with red. Labium pale yellowish brown, segment IV slightly darker brown. Antennal segments I and II pale yellow to yellowish white; segments III and IV missing. Pronotum brownish orange, impressed area between calli fuscous. Scutellum fuscous with median area dark reddish orange. Hemelytron with clavus and inner margin of corium fuscous, outer two thirds of corium, including embolium, brownish orange; cuneus brownish orange, dark brown on inner angle; membrane, including areole, clear to translucent, vein lightly embrowned at base. Ventral surface of thorax brownish orange, with sternum and propleura dark brown; abdomen brown to brownish orange, accented with darker brown laterally. Coxae and front and middle femora pale yellow to yellowish white; remainder of legs missing.
Texture and vestiture: Head shiny, rugose, with weak transverse striations on frons, with scattered, silvery sericeous setae (mostly rubbed). Pronotum shiny, evenly punctate, punctures on calli smaller and more sparse, calli prominent, separated by a distinct impression and pit; with silvery, scattered setae (mostly rubbed). Hemelytron weakly shiny, impunctate, with evenly scattered, silvery, finely sericeous setae.
Male: Unknown.
Host. Unknown.
