Male. Head and prothorax from light brown to brownish-red. Scape and pedicel from brown to black; antennomeres III–XII bicolorous, brownish-orange or yellow with apex black. Meso- and metasternum brown or black. Scutellum from brownish-red to dark brown with the margin darker. Elytra from light brown to black, with yellow median transverse band which may occupy from anterior half or be absent. Femora from brown to black may be bicolorous, brownish-red with than apex black. Tibiae orange.

Antennae tubercles with fine and shallow punctures. Upper eye lobes well-separated, distance between each upper lobe equal to three times width of an upper lobe. Submentum excavated. Genae with fine and sparse punctures. Antennae 12–segmented, exceeding elytral apices, maximum at segment VIII. Scape rugose at base and with fine punctures at apex, glabrous and expanded apically; pedicel with short and erect hairs; segment III with fine and uniformly distributed punctures, with short and decumbent hairs; segments IV–XII recovered by short and dense pubescence. Segment III from 1/3 to two times longer than scape and slightly longer than IV, segments IV–XI subequal in length, segment XII 1/3 shorter than XI and slightly curved at apex.

Prothorax approximately 2/5 wider than long and covered at most by sexual punctation, absent only on transverse carina and fine median longitudinal band. Antemedian tubercle feebly prominent and sometimes absent; postmedian tubercle at right angle to axis of body. Pronotum glabrous or with some sparse hairs on transverse carina. Prosternum with short and dense hairs in transverse sulcus lateral regions and longer on transverse sulcus anterior margin. Prosternal process slightly narrowed at middle, smooth and elevated, at most subequal 1/3 as broad as procoxal cavity. Mesosternal process, at most subequal as broad as mesocoxal cavity; with discrete projection; posterior margin sinuous.

Scutellum from 1/6 to 1/5 length elytra, smooth or with some fine, shallow and sparse punctures. Elytra subparallel, 2.5 times as long as prothorax; surface smooth or with fine and sparse punctures; apex truncate.

Legs with fine and sparse punctures. Pro- and mesofemora ventral region with short and sparse hairs. Sternite V with apex curved and slightly sinuous. Sternite I two times longer than II; sternites II–III subequal in length; sternite IV shorter than III; sternites IV–V subequal in length.

Variability. Antennomeres III, VI and VII almost black. Anterior region of the elytra rugose. Sternite V and III subequal in length.

Female. Antennomeres VI and VII black, VIII–XI yellow. Femora bicolor, basal half yellow and apical half black.

Antennae exceeding elytral apices at segment IX; segment III slightly longer than scape and IV; segments IV– X subequal in length; XI subequal in length to III.

Prothorax smooth, less swollen than in males, lateral tubercles more visible.

Variability. One specimen from Venezuela has the antennomere VI bicolor, anterior half yellow with the posterior half black. Antennae do not reach elytra apices.

Measurements (mm). female/male. n= 3/10. Total length, 22.20±0.98/21.43±3.12; prothorax length, 5.30±0.26/5.18±0.63; greatest prothorax width, 7.60±0.20/7.14±1.06; elytral length, 14.77±0.55/13.87±2.05; humeral width, 7.83±0.31/7.20±1.08.

Type material. We examined the female holotype ( Fig. 185 View FIGURES 185–193 ), from Cayenne, French Guiana ( BMNH), the lectotypes of the synonyms: Trachyderes globicollis (male— Fig. 187 View FIGURES 185–193 ); T. impuctipennis (female— Fig. 188 View FIGURES 185–193 ); T. nigripes (female— Fig. 190 View FIGURES 185–193 ) and T. simplicipennis males (male— Fig. 189 View FIGURES 185–193 ), all from Cayenne, French Guiana ( MNHN) and the male holotype of the subspecies A. lacordairei punctipennis ( Fig. 186 View FIGURES 185–193 ), from Venezuela ( MNHN).

Discussion. Andraegoidus lacordairei exhibits a greatest color variation, which has led many authors to describe various different species. Examination of the lectotypes of Trachyderes globicollis ( Fig. 187 View FIGURES 185–193 ), T. impuctipennis ( Fig. 188 View FIGURES 185–193 ), T. nigripes ( Fig. 190 View FIGURES 185–193 ), T. simplicipennis ( Fig. 189 View FIGURES 185–193 ) and A. lacordairei punctipennis ( Fig. 186 View FIGURES 185–193 ) allowed us to confirm that these are synonymies of Andraegoidus lacordairei . Hüdepohl (1985) considered that the A. lacordairei specimens from Venezuela, described to Cayenne, French Guiana and also found in Brazil (AM, PA), were characterized from the type-form by possessing, in 25x view, elytra distinctly more punctate, and uniformly distributed on the surface; based on this difference he described the subspecies A. lacordairei punctipennis . Botero & Monné (2011) proposed the synonymy of A. lacordairei lacordairei and A. lacordairei punctipennis since here was no significant morphological variation to differentiate these populations.

Andraegoidus lacordairei is similar to A. variegatus , as previous noted by Hüdepohl (1985). Andraegoidus lacordairei is distinguished by having the pronotum swollen and rounded; high transverse carina; males with a fine longitudinal median posterior band without sexually dimorphic punctation; elytra generally with a yellow antemedian band. Andraegoidus variegatus has the prothorax feebly swollen; flat transverse carina; males with the most of the prothorax without sexual punctation; elytra with color pattern variable.

Geographical distribution. Trinidad and Tobago (Talparo), Venezuela (CA, SU), Brazil (AM, PA) and French Guiana (Cayenne) ( Hüdepohl, 1985) ( Fig. 227 View FIGURE 227 ).

Host plants. According to Monné (2001) the following host plants were cited for A. lacordairei : Xanthium cavanillesii Schouw , X. strumarium L. ( Asteraceae ) and Inga capitata Desv. (Mimosaceae) .
