Discussion: Not preoccupied by Macrotis Dejean, 1833 , a nomen nudum ( Troughton, 1932 b). Archer and Kirsch (1977) placed Macrotis (including its junior synonym Thylacomys ) in a separate family (the name available being Thylacomyidae ), rather than in Peramelidae . Groves and Flannery (1990) placed Macrotis back in Peramelidae .
