Phyllocnistinae is a subfamily that consists of only one genus, Phyllocnistis . Currently, there is no taxonomic review available for this subfamily in the Afrotropics. Vári (1961) did not include any discussion about Phyllocnistinae in his book. It was not until 2002 that he mentioned the subfamily in the Checklist of the Lepidoptera of southern Africa (see above in the Oecophyllembiinae comment).
