Dasypeltis palmarum (Leach, 1818)
Material (three specimens): One adult specimen (MHNCUP/REP 191, formerly UP-MHNFCP-017420), collected from unknown locality, in 1905; one adult specimen (MHNCUP/REP 192, formerly UP-MHNFCP-017407), collected from Novo Redondo [=Sumbe] [-11.20000º, 13.85000º, 11 m a.s.l.] Kwanza Sul Province, in 1903 ; one adult specimen (MHNCUP/REP 194, formerly UP-MHNFCP-017408; Fig. S71 View FIGURE S ), collected from unknown locality, date unknown.
Comments: Dasypeltis palmarum occurs in Democratic Republic of the Congo, Congo and western Angola, including the Cabinda enclave ( Marques et al. 2018). It was first described as Coluber palmarum from the type locality “in palm trees at Embomma” [=Boma], Democratic Republic of the Congo ( Marques et al. 2018). Ferreira published several Dasypeltis scabra (Linnaeus, 1758) (see next account), to which the extant D. palmarum might correspond. Of the provinces Newton collected in, D. palmarum is known from Luanda, Kwanza Norte, Kwanza Sul and Namibe.
