Type Locality: Bolivia, Santa Cruz, Rio San Miguel, Guarayos Mission.

Distribution: Upper Amazon in Peru; SW Brazil; Bolivia.
Conservation: CITES – Appendix II; IUCN – Least Concern.
Discussion: S. boliviensis species group. Originally separated from S. sciureus by Hershkovitz (1984); not recognized as a species by Thorington (1985) or Costello et al. (1993), but belongs to a different species group according to Groves (2001 c).
