Small black flies, 10–14.5 mm. Proboscis upturned apically terminating in a sharp dorsal apex (fig. 27). The male is separated by the unusually long extension protruding from tergite 6 ( Figs 9 View FIGURES 7 – 12 & 19 View FIGURES 19 – 23. 19 ).

Redescription.

Head: Face black, yellow pollinose with short black hair. Mystax sparse, long and black. Parafacial hair long, white. Orbital hair long, black. Proboscis apically angulated (ventrally angled upwards) with a sharp apex ( Fig. 27 View FIGURES 24 – 28 ). Short black postocular hair. Ocellar tubercle with 2 long, black dorsal bristles. Antenna black; relative lengths of segments: 3>1>2; postpedicel (segment 3) apex with a shallow dorsal pit. Thorax: Scutum dull blue black with short sparse black acrostichal hair. Postpronotal lobe, postalar callus, and posterior margin of postsutural area of scutum silver gray pollinose. Postpronotal hair black, abundant. Chaetotaxy with 1 notopleural, 3–4 supraalar, 2–3 postalar bristles, all black. Sparse long fine dorsocentral hair. Discal scutellar hair long, appressed, yellow. 10 strong black marginal scutellar bristles. Lateral aspect of thorax silver gray tomentose. Anepisternum with dorsal black and ventral yellow sparse fine hair; 2 strong black posterior bristles. Katatergal bristles black and yellow. Anatergite silver gray tomentose. Legs: Entirely black with long abundant black and yellow hair and black bristles. Wings: Tinged black, basal cells clear. Abdomen: Tergites dull blue black with short appressed black hair. Tergites 1–5 with a short sparse fringe of yellow posterior margin hair. Tergites 1–5 each with a strong black lateral bristle. Male genitalia: ( Figs 3 View FIGURES 1 – 6 , 9 View FIGURES 7 – 12 , 15 View FIGURES 13 – 18 & 19 View FIGURES 19 – 23. 19 ). Tergite 6 with a long projection ( Figs 9 View FIGURES 7 – 12 & 19 View FIGURES 19 – 23. 19 ), bulbous or arrow­head shaped apex, which may be situated between the lobes of the gonopod, or offset to one side ( Fig. 9 View FIGURES 7 – 12 ). Female: Similar to male except lateral tergite bristles less prominent, often missing. Abdomen clavate.
