THIS COMpLEX, pROBABLY INCLUdING AT LEAST NINE Of THE 28 GROUpS Of BECHYNÉ (1948A), WAS fIRST SUBSTANTIATEd BASEd ON SIMILAR AdULT AppEARANCE ANd KARYOTYpES (PETITpIERRE 1970B, 1976; GÓMEZ-ZURITA et al. 2004), ANd LATER ON WITH MITOCHONdRIAL ANd NUCLEAR pHYLOGENIES (GÓMEZ-ZURITA et al. 2000A, 2000B, 2000C; GÓMEZ-ZURITA & VOGLER 2003; GÓMEZ-ZURITA 2004, 2008). ALTHOUGH MANY Of THESE SpECIES HAVE SHOWN SIMILAR OR IdENTICAL ENdOpHALLI, A fEW OTHERS HAVE dISpLAYEd HIGHLY dIVERGENT STRUCTURES.
