Paratypes (4 specimens): 1 Ƌ, 1 ♀ (dissected; one specimen without apical part of abdomen): same data as the holotype (1 Ƌ: CS; 1 ♀: OUMNH); 2 ♀♀ (dissected; one specimen without apical part of abdomen): ‘ CHINA Yunnan | Xishuangbanna | 22 [handwritten]. I.1993 | G. de Rougemont’ <printed> ( OUMNH). All paratypes with red rectangular printed label: ‘ PARATYPE | Paraphloeostiba | ampliata sp.n. | Shavrin A. V. des. 2020’.
Description. Measurements (n=5): HW: 0.38–0.42; HL: 0.23–0.26; AL (averaged): 0.56; OL: 0.10–0.12; PL: 0.28–0.31;PW:0.51–0.56; ESL:0.50–0.57;EW:0.63–0.75;AW:0.65–0.71;MTbL(holotype):0.28;MTrL(holotype): 0.12 (MTrL 1–4: 0.04; MTrL 5: 0.08); AedL: 0.42; TL: 2.00–2.52 (holotype: 2.40).
Body and antennomeres 6–11 brown; mouthparts, antennomeres 1–5, laterobasal, basal (some paratypes), and middle portions of elytra, and intersegmental membranes between abdominal tergites yellow-brown; legs yellow. Head without punctures, with regular isodiametric microsculpture, slightly coarser in portions between anteocellar foveae and margins of eyes; neck with fine isodiametric meshes; pronotum with very sparse fine punctation, lacking along midline, with similar microsculpture as that in middle portion of head; scutellum with fine, transverse meshes; punctation of elytra distinctly denser than that of pronotum, deeper in basal portion, microsculpture slightly coarser than that on pronotum; abdomen without punctation, with coarse isodiametric microreticulation.
Head indistinctly convex in median and posterior portions between ocelli and eyes, with wide postantennal depressions, 1.6 times as broad as long, with short and deep anteocellar foveae reaching basal third of eyes; postocular carina distinct, acute, located very close to posterior margin of eye; distance between ocelli slightly greater than distance between ocellus and posterior margin of eye. Apical palpomere of maxillary palpi about twice as long as penultimate palpomere. Antennae short, reaching basal portion of elytra when reclined; basal antennomere about twice as long as broad, antennomere 2 about as broad as basal antennomere, 3 narrow, about as long as 2, 4 very small, about as long as wide, 5 slightly transverse, indistinctly wider than 4, 6–10 progressively widened, covered by dense pubescence, 7–9 about twice as broad as long, 10 one and a half times as broad as long, apical antennomere 1.4 times as long as 10, from middle narrowing to conical apex.
Pronotum slightly flattened, 1.8 times as broad as long, 1.3 times as broad as head, widest in middle, gradually and slightly narrowing toward rounded apical angles and more or less sharply narrowing toward acute posterior angles; anterior margin indistinctly concave, about as long as posterior margin or slightly shorter; paramedian longitudinal impressions indistinct, wide and long; lateral impressions moderately deep and wide.
Elytra 1.2–1.3 times as broad as long, 1.7–1.8 times as long as pronotum, slightly widened apicad towards the widely rounded hind angles; posterior margin straight.
Metatarsi more than twice as long as metatibia.
Abdomen of similar width as elytra, with two small and round wing-folding patches in the middle of abdominal tergite IV, with narrow palisade fringe at apical margin of abdominal tergite VII.
Male. Posterior margin of abdominal tergite VIII indistinctly rounded ( Fig. 6 View FIGURES 6–13 ). Posterior margin of abdominal sternite VIII deeply concave ( Fig. 7 View FIGURES 6–13 ). Aedeagus with wide basal bulb, slightly narrowing towards the rounded ( Fig. 1 View FIGURES 1–5 ) or straight ( Fig. 2 View FIGURES 1–5 ) apex; parameres very long, significantly extending beyond apex of median lobe, distinctly widened apically, with several very long apical, several short lateral setae, two on inner edge, and several setae in middle portion of each paramere; internal sac narrow, moderately long, with suboval sclerotized sclerite in basal portion.
Female. Posterior margins of abdominal tergite VIII ( Fig. 8 View FIGURES 6–13 ) and sternite VIII ( Fig. 9 View FIGURES 6–13 ) rounded. Female accessory sclerite with wide basal part, significantly narrowed towards the very long apical portion ( Fig. 10 View FIGURES 6–13 ). Spermatheca as in Fig. 11 View FIGURES 6–13 .
Comparative notes. Based on the shape of the slightly flattened body and the general shape of the aedeagus, P. ampliata sp.n. is similar to P. sulcicollis ( Fauvel, 1904) , from which it differs by paler coloration, a significantly wider median lobe, a narrower and longer apical portion of the female accessory sclerite, and the different shape of the spermatheca.
Distribution. The species is known only from the type locality in Jinghong, Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan ( Fig. 14 View FIGURE 14 ).
Bionomics. The specimens were collected from decaying palm tree trunks and decaying oil palm fruit (G. de Rougemont, pers. comm.), together with P. gayndahensis and P. (P.) rougemonti sp.n. (see below).
Etymology. The specific epithet (Latin, adjective: widened) refers to the wide aedeagus of the new species.
