Distribution ( Fig. 155 View Figures 153-158 ). Argentina (Buenos Aires), Brazil (Rio Grande do Sul), Uruguay.
Localities. Buenos Aires: Mar del Plata ( Bruch 1911: 150).
Remarks. Horn (1895) discussed the color range of Cyindera patagonica patagonica ranged from the typical coppery green to blue with enlarged maculations, a form he called cherubim. In the same paper (based on two males from Montevideo, coll. Prof. Carlos Berg, and two males without locality data, coll. Horn) he described the form “ bergiana ”, which is coppery green, smaller than cherubim, with enlarged maculation and apical lunule and marginal band connected.
Horn did not put type labels on the two male specimens in his collection, however, his handwritten bluish label “bergi” is added to the pin of one of them. It is herein designated as lectotype. The other male, mentioned in the description, is designated as paralectopype.
Type depository. Lectotype male and paralectotype male in SDEI.
Type status. Lectotype male (here designated). Type labels: “Keitel” [handwritten, white, with black borders]; “bergi” [handwritten, light blue]; LECTOTYPE Cylindera (Plectographa) patagonica bergiana ( HORN, 1895) , ded J. Wiesner 2013 [printed, red]. Paralectotype male (here designated). Type labels: “Keitel” [handwritten, white, with black borders]; PARALECTOTYPE Cylindera (Plectographa) patagonica bergiana ( HORN, 1895) , ded J. Wiesner 2013 [printed, red].
Cylindera patagonica patagonica is readily recognized by its narrow elytral markings and its greenish brown to brown ground color. Its distribution is restricted from central and southern Argentina. The elytral maculations of the other two subspecies are broader. In Argentina they are restricted to the central and north-eastern parts of the country. The ground color of Cylindera patagonica cherubim is blue, occasionally green. The ground color of Cylindera patagonica bergiana is brownish green to brown. The body size (from apical tip to base of labrum) is an average smaller than 10 mm in C. patagonica bergiana and larger than 10 mm in C. patagonica cherubim .
