Comments

This species is easily distinguished from other species of the varius species group by the following characters: F3 black; two distinct pale longitudinal streaks on lateral mesoscutal mid lobe.

Comparing sequence data to those in the NCBI (GenBank) database using NCBI nucleotide BLAST (Basic Local Alignment Search Tool) ( Altschul et al. 1990) revealed Coccophagus among the most similar results, mixed with matches of the closely related genus Encarsia , both with comparatively low percentage identities ranging from 88.43% (COI) to 94.88 (28D-D2). In the case of CO1 the closest match (88.43% similarity) was a partial mitogenome of Encarsia formosa (accession no. MG813797.1), followed by eight sequences of Coccophagus gurneyi , all different individuals from the same study. For the 28S-D2 sequence, the BLAST search generated Coccophagus philippiae and C. lycimnia as the top three matches.
