Genus Hymenura Townes, 1965 View in CoL View at ENA
Hymenura Townes View in CoL , in Townes et al. 1965: 603. Type species: Neopyga nigra Heinrich, 1930 . Original designation.
Diagnosis: This genus can be distinguished from the other genera of Ichneumoninae by the following combination of character states: clypeus flat, with apical margin slightly concave ( Figs 2A–C View FIGURE 2 ); mandible evenly arched, with single tooth and a small impression indicating the position of the obsolescent lower tooth ( Figs 2A, D View FIGURE 2 ); gena weakly bulging behind eye in dorsal view ( Fig. 2E View FIGURE 2 ); scutellum highly elevated ( Fig. 2F View FIGURE 2 ); propodeum with a full set of distinct carinae ( Fig. 2E View FIGURE 2 ); propodeum without long apophysis ( Fig. 2F View FIGURE 2 ); propodeal spiracle elongate ( Figs 2E, F View FIGURE 2 ); gastrocoelus and thyridium distinct, wider than the inter-thyridial interval ( Fig. 3A View FIGURE 3 ); apical margin of female T5 weakly and T6–7 strongly concave ( Fig. 3B View FIGURE 3 ).
Remarks: By comparing Japanese specimens and previous descriptions (Jeong and Lee, 2008; Tereshkin, 2009), the Japanese specimens of Hymenura nigra ( Heinrich, 1930) show some small differences with previous descriptions, with these differences appearing to be continuous in nature, and simply intraspecific variation. An example of this is a white mark on hind tarsus; usually developed on 2 nd to 4 th tarsomeres, but some specimens completely lack the mark, e. g. KPM-NK 55272.
